The
Emmanuel Youth Empowerment Center (EYE-C) was founded in 2008 as a way to increase Emmanuel Center’s outreach capacity, as well as address some of the under lying causes that lead children to a life on streets.
Emmanuel Center workers realised that most children and youth end up living on the streets because of lack of food at home, lack of education opportunities, drug addictions, abuse, unemployment, and poor self-esteem. For example, over 68 % of Kenya children do not attend secondary school due to the high cost, and 85 percent of Kenyan youth, over 18, are unemployed.
The drop in center provides such children and youth basic education and marketable skills. It provides basic counselling and meals, as well as opportunities to develop self-esteem and participate positively in the community.
